I just got back from Kentucky. The boys from my squad and I were there for two weeks. If I’m honest I didn’t really want to go at first. The boys on my squad weren’t all that close and I felt like I was going to be on the outside looking in, but the opposite happened. Us boys grew so close and I can truly say that I love each and every one of them. I count them as brothers now, not just friends. Working so much with these men has brought us closer than I could ever imagine.

That explains the closeness, now for the karaoke. My team got broken up in our second week in Kentucky and two boys from my squad and I were placed on another team with racers from different squads. We were doing demo work on houses affected by flooding, tearing out walls, removing mold, removing floors, you get the idea. We were working on a house, a BAD house. The floors were falling through there was black mold everywhere, but through it all there was Don. Don was the neighbor man. He was probably in his 60s or 70s. He brought his tractor to help us haul trash out of the house. As we talked to him we learned a few things, he loved karaoke and he loved to talk. The more we learned about him the more he learned about us. I got to share some of my testimony with him. He had a music room in his house and he invited us to come over and have lunch and sing with him so we did. We were expecting some hot dogs but this man had a whole thanksgiving feast set up for us! After we ate some of my team members shared their Jesus story and he was hanging onto every word. Then we got to sing one song together. I got to sing “Louisiana Saturday Night “ with him and then we had to say our goodbyes. I tell that story because by the last day he was asking questions about faith. It doesn’t take you sharing the entirety of the Bible with someone to show them God. It simply takes loving them, showing them the love of Christ is more than enough to plant seeds of faith.

  1. Jabez appointments, just keep your eyes and ears open to the prompts God has set up all along the way. People can be amazing, just like you…

  2. Such a great testimony Kevin. Hopefully God will continue to soften Don’s heart and he will be proclaiming Jesus as his Savior very soon. Thank you for being there for him!

  3. I read this blog, Kevin, just before debrief. II thought about it a lot but I guess I didn’t comment-sorry. It was so exciting to me. 1) because you all bonded as a team, 2) you all saw and heard this older gentleman who seems lonely from what you say, 3) God rewarded you and him by softening his heart. This is true ministry. Thank you for sharing this story. It still makes me excited. The Lord is on the move!
